Don't be a h4cKmaStA and stick your sweepers in a models directory. Alter your autoload path and RESTART the rails server.

To get the observers in the sweepers directory to hook in you need to add the sweepers directory to your path:

config.load_paths += %W( #{RAILS_ROOT}/app/sweepers )

*and* assign config.active_record.observers, typically in environment.rb:
(trying to break one line into 4 lines of short code...):

full_names = Dir["#{RAILS_ROOT}/app/sweepers/*.rb"]
config.active_record.observers = full_names.collect do |full_name|
File.basename(full_name,'.rb').to_sym
end
